About My Practice

Life can be challenging at times. Many of us find ourselves attempting to deal with problems that we never planned on having in our lives. Maybe we are caring for elderly parents, struggling with the economy or are part of a “blended family”. Maybe we are overwhelmed with our children's issues, or are feeling more depressed or anxious and these feelings are affecting the way we function in our relationships and careers. If you are feeling overwhelmed by family, work, changes of mood and/ or your child’s behavior, counseling may be an option to consider, to assist and support you and your child.Counseling provides an opportunity to identify the issues that are causing problems and then to work on developing healthier coping skills, improved communication methods and deeper insights. I am a professionally trained clinical therapist who has over twenty years of experience working with families and children. I have worked with individuals from birth through adulthood and parents of children with special needs. In addition to my private work, I am a school based clinician working in grades K-12th. I believe that parents are the experts on their children and that every family/individual has a unique style. My philosophy is not to direct clients in terms of telling them what to do, but with guidance, to empower them to make choices with the assistance of my support and professional knowledge. My practice with children and adolescents involves making a safe place for them to come to discuss and explore their emotions. We may use art, music or therapeutic games as tools help with this expression. In addition to this, I have completed training from Harvard's Judge Baker's Children Center in the MATCH Modality for the treatment of anxiety, depression, conduct disorder and trauma using an evidence based CBT model.
